It takes writers and artists years to maintain their craft, to keep cultivating new, inspiring works of art, to keep writing despite the appearance and re-appearance of writer’s block. But through it all these individuals keep striving, and before they know it, reach another milestone. My newest novel, Through the Eyes of a Servant, is now complete and I owe its success to not just my writing capabilities, but to the talent of my editor, illustrator, and contributors. I also would have never made it this far without all the feedback and aid from all the brilliant tutors and lecturers at Birmingham City University.
The novel itself is nowhere related to my first book, Pricilla Phantom. Instead, we follow the duel narrative of a down-on-his-luck butler, Thomas Fulton and the noble lady, Paula Ethel, who is struggling to put her tragic past to rest. Together, these two individuals find comfort in one another and must recover, face new struggles, and avoid the callous hands of Victorian London’s most twisted murderer…
The story was inspired by dreams I had for years as well as my deep love for the Victorian Era. The research conducted to write certain parts of the novel was an enjoyable part, though there are plenty of aspects where the story delves away from historical fact and follows a more fictional approach. All in all, Through the Eyes of a Servant makes a perfect read for individuals looking for a mystery novel set in a historical period, or simply has a great love for following a narrative through a butler’s eyes.
